Carolyn Sidenius compiled the following regarding his three wives:
Christopher's birth per Stone Arabia Reformed Church. No death date or gravestone found.
1. Nancy Cretser: Clark Snell wrote that Christopher Snell m Nancy Cretser and had 3 children \endash William, Alexander & Lucy. However, other data challenges Alexander.
2. Nancy Quakenbush. Christopher married Nancy by 1829, per will of her father. They had a son, Frederick in 1830, per Stone Arabia Lutheran Church. Moved later to Jefferson County. Lived in Pamelia Four Corners, Jefferson County, per 1844 will of his father.
In the 1850 census, Nancy Snell, was head of household, age 37, with Frederick 20, Fanny 15, Riley 15 (perhaps the Riley born 1835 in Little Falls - no father's name), Lorenzo 12, Isaac 9, Mary 6, George 5, Jacob 2. Also in 1850 census, a Christopher Snell, age 43, was in the Auburn State Prison in Cuyoga County, incarcerated since 1848, Sidenius thinks the charge was rape. He apparently returned by 1854, but let soon thereafter. In the 1855 census, Nancy appears with a child Christopher, born about Feb. 1855, while Christopher was listed in the 1855 Oppenheim census, under another family.
3. Mary Catherine Fitch/Waite: In 1855, Christopher Snell was listed on the census for Oppenheim, Fulton Co., under the Henry Baum Jr. family. That census lists Christopher as age 54, Mary C. wife 25 and 5 Waite children by her 1st marriage. She was a widow when she married Christopher Snell. Born in 1806 Christopher would have been 49 on 25 Aug 1855.
In 1865 census, Christopher and Mary (Waite) Snell had 5 children: Levi William, Emma, Willard, Jenna, & Ester/Caroline. Another son, Arthur, was b on 19 Oct 1867 (per records of his daughter, Mary M. Snell Anthony). In 1870 Christopher Snell was recorded alone in Oppenheim.
The 1884 will of Levi Snell, brother of Christopher, said: "I give & bequeath to 3 of my brother Christopher's sons, namely Rialy, Isaac & Levi Snell, 100 dollars each if they survive me or either of them." (Perhaps the son Levi named in this will was the son of Christopher and Mary Fitch/Waite.)
The later Snell children were:
Levi William b 26 April 1859 per his obit and family, but was recorded as age 3 on the 1860 census. He m. Anna Catherine Van Antwerp and they had 10 children. They lived in Utica, NY. (from Neil Mullin, Utica, a descendant)
Emma, probably b. c. 1859 (age 1 on the 1860 census and 6 on the 1865 census) but her gravestone has 1870. She was unmarried and lived at St. Johnsville, NY.
Willard, b in April 1862 per his obit, m. Delia Weaver and they had 2 children. Lived at St. Johnsville.
Jenna, apparently died young, she was age 2 on the 1865 census.
Carrie (Ester on census) was b 7 April 1865, m. John Dolan and lived at St. Johnsville. No children. (Her obit)
Arthur Ellsworth b 19 October 1867, m. Katherine Schill and lived in Utica, NY (Mary M. Snell Anthony's record).
Mary Fitch was b about 1829 at Krings Bush, Town of Oppenheim, the daughter of Luke & Margaret (Campbell) Fitch. Mary married 3rd Larry Weaver, 4th in 1900 Abram Hayes, and 5th in 1905 Charles Henry Heinaman of the Town of Ephratah. (1900 & 1905 marriage records). She died 2/4/1914 age 84 in Tn. Ephratah at home of son Willard Snell & buried in Tn. Ephratah (obit & death record)
Christopher married Nancy Cretser. (Nancy Cretser was born in 1812 and died in 1859.)
Christopher next married Nancy Quackenbush, daughter of Isaac Quackenbush and Catherine Walrath, before 1829 in , Montgomery, New York. (Nancy Quackenbush was born about 1812 in , Montgomery, New York and died on 17 Apr 1856 in , Jefferson, New York.)
Christopher next married Mary Catherine Fitch, daughter of Luke Fitch and Margaret Campbell, about 1854-1855 in Oppenheim, Fulton, New York, United States. (Mary Catherine Fitch was born in 1828 in Kringsbush, Oppenheim, Fulton, New York, died on 4 Jan 1914 in Ephratah, Fulton, New York, United States and was buried in Ephratah, Fulton, New York, United States.)
